I have never knitted anything with such curious construction but it seems to work and is fairly varied so I'm persevering (in among the Xmas knitting!!) until mine is complete. Buttons, hm, that is always difficult, but I may try online, since there is nothing inspiring in my vicinity so far! Meanwhile, I wish you all the best for the birth of your son and getting settled into motherhood - my grandson is now 16 mths and a joy! I had 3 daughters myself, so it's quite a novelty...
