Ravelympics 2010

I am writing this with my little boy in my arms.  Although he sleeps through the night in his crib, he won’t nap during the day unless I hold him.  Despite this fact, and despite the fact that I have 2 projects with looming deadlines (which I can’t share yet, sorry!) I am determined to participate in the Ravelympics.  The rules state that you must challenge yourself.  My challenge will be: time.

This is what I will probably make, though I might change my mind…

Pattern here.  Am I crazy?

Yes, but then most of us are.

I don’t think you’re crazy, you just want to play along! I do, however, think that cardigan is crazy cute!

That’s an awesome sweater! I love her stuff. I actually just purchased one of her patterns for my own use.

One of my friends had the same problem with napping, and she started to use a baby sling so that she could be a little more active during the day. Worked like a charm. Have you tried that yet?

I do use a sling, and it’s funny, he is perfectly happy while I unload the dishwasher, do laundry, vacuum, he sleeps right through it all. If I try to knit, well that just doesn’t really work for him, he starts to fuss. Why?!!

You are crazy. However, we all are a little bit crazy. I think you will do it. And the sweater looks great.

Have you tried putting him on your back to sleep while you knit? Is he old enough for that yet?

That’s how my friend ended up doing everything. And it seems to be a very popular solution in my neighborhood for napping babies.

Anyway, sucks that he gets cranky when you knit. He’ll have to get used to it :)

That sweater is so dang cute! You’d be crazy NOT to make it!

My little (now 18mos) was the same way. I think it is because you stop moving? Maybe try knitting standing up, swaying to music with him in a sling. (I recommend the moby when they’re so little, or you can make your own with 5 yds of stretchy jersey) It’s not perfect but it may let you get in some knitting time. I couldn’t knit towards the end of my pregnancy due to pregnancy-induced carpal-tunnel syndrome (yuck) so I was ITCHING to knit once I had him! I also knit while nursing him using a boppy.
I chose a difficult project (not hard, just a lot of knitting) for the ravelympics. I say go for it! You’ll be making a smaller size I assume. The pattern looks like so much fun!

This pattern is super cute… Well, it seems a lot of work, but it’s kid size, so seems feasible in 17 days! Good luck and most of all Happy Ravelympics!
