Fabric Eye Candy: Day 1

This blog is first and foremost a knitting blog.  Yes.  However, I can’t deny how gaga I am for fabric right now.  As packages start arriving at the house, I can’t help but reveal their contents to you.

Do any of you knitters also find yourself lured by fabric and a sewing machine now and then?  Reveal yourselves!

I definitely divide my time between knitting and sewing (and other things). It’s good to be a well rounded crafter!

I’m heading out tomorrow to buy my first (non garage sale) sewing machine. Can’t wait! :)

    good for you, Deirdre!

  5. Chantal B Says:

I have my stash of fabrics too. I just spent my saturday with my sewing machine… So I can understand! Really nice fabrics that you’ve got.

  6. Yarndude Says:

Oh gosh, I sure wish so! I have dreams of making heirloom-quality quilts. Problem is, I’ve never sewn a stitch in my life!

I have to admit- my first love is actually with sewing. These days I tend to do more knitting, but sewing skills come in so handy. The reason I originally wanted to really learn to knit was I felt there was a void. I thought I could make all of my clothing and then realized I couldn’t sew a sweater. Solution? Learn to knit!

  8. Cheeri Says:

Beautiful color combination- gray, pale blue, red. I definitely have a large stash of fabric to rival my yarn stash. Who can resist picking up a yard here and there when they’re so pretty to look at!

I love ALL my fibre arts too. There is a fabulous shop in Anchorage, Alaska that is a knitting/quilting store, The Quilt Tree and the Yarn Branch. The perfect place to get your fix for both!

YES!!! I just started sewing and I love it. I got into knitting since I love to make purses and found they needed a stabilizing lining. It was the allure of the fabric that seduced me. (Also, the quick turn around time is also exciting.) I made my daughter a dress this weekend that is just missing the zipper and hem to be complete. Of the the fabric store today!

I love to sew, too! Especially springy scarves made from Anna Marie Horner voile fabrics (I just got some!!!!). I am a straight seam sewer (skirts, scarves, pillows, etc.) but would love to be able to make my own shirts. Someday I will learn! That and sewing in a zipper. SCARY!

  12. Shelly Says:

Of course! Knitting is great because I am a mother of five and only have time for a row here and a row there, but the days when I can lug out the sewing machine and sew all day are the best! Quilting, baby clothes, doll clothes for my girls… I love that I can start and finish great things in one day!

  13. Melissa Says:

Oh yeah. I Love amy butler fabrics….but in a way knitting is easier day-to-day. No set-up required, and you can do it while watching TV or whatnot. Sewing requires a little more effort, but the results are quicker!!

  14. Marianne Says:

Absolutely…I love fabric and have for longer than I have loved yarn. You’ve got one of my all time favs in your pile but i love the red colorway of Amy Butler’s “wallflower” yum, yum

  15. Tilly Says:

Yes, I waver between knitting and sewing. I’m on a bit of a knitting kick at the moment. Re sewing, I like to repurpose stuff so I have a cupboard stuffed with clothes waiting to be turned into other stuff. I absolutely love yarn though – fabric doesn’t do it for me in quite the same way.

  16. Thuy Says:

I went to Jo-Ann’s to get supplies to make those little box bags to carry my knitting around in. Now I find myself hoarding fabric like I hoard yarn. It’s a sickness…

  17. Vanessa Says:

the wonderful thing about fabric is that even if you don’t sew, you can find reasons to appreciate it and use it… curtains, table cloths, napkins, printer cover — voila!

  18. Virginia Says:

Yep! Both. Love it. Can’t wait to sew again…

  19. CatMyers Says:

I love to sew. I actually have more of a history with sewing than with knitting, and I often swing between being consumed by knitting and being consumed by a sewing project. Fiber of any kind is a lure for me. :-)

  20. Julie Says:

Oh I flit between knitting and sewing: sewing has the advantage of speed and knitting has the advantage of portability … and I love to do both!
