Coastal Knits Preview

I've had something big in the works since the beginning of the year, and I can finally tell you about it!   Alana Dakos and I have joined forces, and are excited to announce our collaborative project.  It's a book!

You may know Alana from her popular Never Not Knitting podcast.  This is how we officially "met", she interviewed me on an early episode a few years back.  Since then we've become good friends.  Alana lives in California, and I live in Maine.  We thought it would be interesting to each design pieces inspired by our local coasts.  With this concept in our hands, Coastal Knits was born.  We'll be revealing more details in the coming weeks.  I can tell you that pre-orders for our self-published book will start in September, and it will be available in October.

Knitting for Solace

I have been working hard on the finishing touches of a project that soon can be revealed! In the midst of the stress that comes with deadlines, I am finding solace in some knitting.

Restoring Creative Energy

Talking with a colleague over e-mail the other day, I mentioned how I was feeling like knitting something just for the joy of it. But it's hard to give myself permission to do that. I should be designing something new, right? The encouragement was to view it as "restoring creative energy". Wise words. So this afternoon I wound a skein of yarn in my backyard. I have a swift, but I've been rushing around so much lately I decided to wind my skein the slow way.  It was very relaxing.

After pouring over the new Twist Collective and Jared Flood's Wool People, I've decided to make Shadow, by Olga Buraya-Kefelian:

So beautiful.  I'm always tempted by Olga's patterns.  This one officially hooked me.

What are you casting on for this weekend?
